Choral Union on Tour

An annual tour has become a delightful tradition in recent years. The tour is a mixture of singing (often performing in breath-taking venues), sight seeing and socializing. Tours began in 1995 to Jersey
and since then have continued yearly. Destinations have included During 2006 the choir visited Greece, performing in both Athens and Nafplio.

2008 Tour to the Czech
Republic
There was plenty of time for sight-seeing before a move to Decin, near the German border, where our choristers combined with Decinsky Pevecky Sbor - the Decin Choir - to sing Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man. The Municipal Theatre was filled to capacity for the performance, which was repeated at the small town of Litomerice two days later. Many choir
members stayed with Czech families, whose hospitality was extremely
generous, while the whole choir was entertained at a reception after
the Decin event. It was good to meet the Czech choir again in July
when they paid a return visit as part of Maidstone’s International
Festival, joining us to sing the Verdi Requiem. |

The
annual European trip this year took place in glorious weather at the
end of May. MCU members spent four days in Prague, singing there at
the Lutheran church of U Salvator, firstly joining a Baptism service
and then later giving a concert of motets and other short pieces.
